18K GOLD PLATED JEWELLERY

Jewellery Care

With the right care, your jewellery will stay radiant for years to come. Follow these simple guidelines to protect your pieces.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR JEWELLERY

What is 18k gold plating?

Our pieces feature a layer of genuine 18-karat gold bonded to a high-quality base metal through an electroplating process. This gives you the look and lustre of solid gold at an accessible price point, while maintaining excellent durability when properly cared for.

Like all plated jewellery, the gold layer is delicate and can be affected by moisture, chemicals, and friction over time. The tips below will help you extend the life of your pieces significantly.

DAILY WEAR

Do's & Dont's

DO

  • Put jewellery on last, after makeup and perfume
  • Wipe pieces dry with a soft cloth after wearing
  • Remove before sleeping to reduce friction
  • Handle clasps and closures with care
  • Store each piece separately to avoid scratching

DON'T

  • Wear in the shower, pool, or sea
  • Expose to perfume, hairspray, or lotions
  • Wear during exercise or sweating heavily
  • Use harsh chemicals or abrasive cloths
  • Sleep or shower wearing your pieces
CLEANING GUIDE

How to clean your pieces

1. Prepare your solution - Fill a small bowl with warm (not hot) water and add a single drop of mild, fragrance-free dish soap. Avoid anything antibacterial or containing bleach.

2. Gently clean - Dip a soft lint-free cloth or a very soft toothbrush into the solution. Gently wipe or brush the surface using light circular motions. Never scrub — the gold layer is delicate

3. Rinse carefully - Rinse the piece briefly under cool running water. Keep exposure to water as short as possible, especially near clasps or crevices.

4. Pat dry thoroughly - Immediately pat dry with a clean, soft cloth. Allow to air dry fully before storing. Never leave pieces damp — moisture accelerates wear.

Important:Never use ultrasonic cleaners, silver polishing cloths, bicarbonate of soda, vinegar, or toothpaste on gold plated jewellery. These can strip the plating entirely.

Storage

Use jewellery box

A lined box with separate compartments prevents pieces from touching and scratching each other.

Use soft pouches

Individual velvet or anti-tarnish pouches offer excellent protection, especially when travelling.

Avoid humidity

Store away from bathrooms or windowsills. Humidity accelerates tarnishing even without direct contact with water.

Keep away from light

Direct sunlight and heat can affect the finish over time. A cool, dry drawer is ideal.

Things to avoid

Chlorine & saltwater

Swimming pools and the sea are among the biggest causes of premature wear. Always remove jewellery before swimming.

Perfume & hairspray

Alcohol and aerosol-based products react with the plating. Always apply these before putting on your jewellery.

Lotion & oils

Skincare products, sun cream, and body oils can build up and dull the finish. Let products absorb fully before wearing.

Sweat & heat

Exercise, saunas, and hot environments cause perspiration that accelerates wear. Remove pieces before physical activity.

Handle with love

Gold plated jewellery rewards thoughtful care. With these habits in place, your pieces will maintain their brilliance and remain a joy to wear for a long time.Questions? We're always happy to help — get in touch with our team.
